Sundot Ohana - Melissa Van Der Merwe
My most amazing fishing adventure was when I went steelhead fishing for the first time on the Salmon River in Washington with my boyfriend Nate Tsao. It was a pretty crisp morning and we woke up early to get to the river before sunrise. I slipped into my waders (which I am not use to here in Hawaii) and began our journey through the evergreen trees in search of the Salmon River.
Sundot Ohana Trip To French Polynesia
The time we spent with our captain and his friends of Poe Charter, were some of the best times. They really know how to show aloha and enjoy every day, sharing their music and ukulele with us, as well as refreshing Rum Punch and local delicacies like the fresh raw clams with a squirt of lime they brought over for breakfast one morning...yumm!
Sundot Ohana - All the way from Raiatea, French Polynesia, Teariiroa Chapman
My biggest fishing influence was My Grandpa. He taught me everything I know about the ocean, navigation with the stars, bird behavior, reading maps, reading weather and know what moon is best for what fish. But most of all, he offered me his love for fishing and for the Ocean. I really became a fisherman because of his love for fishing and since he passed away this June going out fishing is like going back to him everyday.
Sundot Ohana: West Maui Sports
Doug at West Maui Sports has been selling our Sun Dot Marine Flags for over 20 years. To me, thats amazing! And I think it's great to meet the people you do business with and thank them in any small way that you can. We hooked him up with one of our hats. Doug was super friendly and loved our Mahi-Mahi hat. I think we made each other's day!

A few months ago, we met Summer Martin, a local Hilo girl who works at Mo's Fish and Chips while growing her own business on the side. She uses her unique images to make Hawaii-inspired pouches that reflect what inspires her. We caught up with her and asked her a few questions after she helped us create some custom Marlin pouches for our own private collection.

Sundot Ohana - Amy Fitzgerald
Amy Firzgerald loves fishing because, "it is a way to feed my family with a known and sustainable food source. I hardly ever go to the store and pay for meat, I have definitely become mostly pescatarian. It beats paying for farm meat that didn't live happy, wild, fulfilling lives before ending up on someones table".
Sundot Ohana - Christa Russell
I’m a police officer with Hawaii Police Department and currently work in Kona on patrol. In my free time, I love to surf if there’s waves. If it’s flat I enjoy anything outdoors including diving, hiking, fishing, and I'm always down to try or venture somewhere new!
