We recently went on a little adventure with The Beachery on the Kohala Coast of the Big Island. Mahea and her brother, Ikua were the most amazing tour guides and we are so grateful for the opportunity to explore remote parts of our island home. We couldn't recommend a more epic day out on the water!
Kayaking up the beautiful Kohala Coast
Tour guide and owner of The Beachery, Mahea Gambill
Our morning started just after sunrise. We met down at Kawaihae Harbor and launched our kayaks from the little sandy beach. Within minutes we were surrounded by a pod of spinner dolphins. They followed our kayaks for awhile and we even got the chance to jump in the water and swim with them. It was absolutely incredible!

We ventured pretty far up the coast and decided to stop and do some snorkeling. The Beachery rents snorkelling gear - and deliver, so if you are visiting the Big Island, its the perfect way to save yourself from lugging home lots of gear.

While snorkeling we stumbled upon a crazy underwater cave and although we can't divulge much about this sacred place, we can tell you it was an experience we will never forget. There's something quite magical about the formation of caves. The wonder and danger and reward of making it out alive, make life worth living. We hung out in the dark for awhile before heading home, all before lunchtime!
